I dunno, I kinda agree in the sense that Canadian Comedy as a whole is lacking. I mean really, when was the last time you saw a CANADIAN MADE comedy that could stand up against one from the US. I’m not trying to say that we’re lacking talent, or even the funding to make it. The problem is that we’re stuck between two completely different types of senses of humour. You have the British style of humour which is subtly sarcastic and cutting (ie. Extras, or the Office) and then you have the US style of humour which is much more abrasive and raw (ie. South Park, or the Colbert Report). Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that these shows aren’t funny, I mentioned them because they are all some of my favorite shows. The problem lies in Canada not having a clue what it’s own identity is. We’re the international little brother that just keeps following in the footsteps of the older siblings. The oldest being our Commonwealth sister abroad and our neighbors down south being the angry middle children. Long story short, as the glorified image of these other two countries are being tarnished more and more by the day, do you not think it’s time for Canada to step up and change the world? Mr. Obama is trying to spread word in the states for “CHANGE” while everyone in the world is afraid that soon we’ll either blow up each other by weapons or that the way we’ve treated the environment will result in the world blowing itself up. As Canadians, we have a natural understanding of peace. We have a natural understanding of how to take care of your natural surroundings. We are the country with the 3rd largest amount of open, natural, un-touched land per capita. Our government, although not some of the best characters in political history, have all along lived by a standard of using words, not bullets. It’s our time.
That being said, with this political shift that I foresee on the horizon, you could very well imagine a shift in the focus of the entertainment industry as well.
That’s all I got.
