My name is Spectra, and I am an alien. I just look like a human when I’m not in my superhero form. My people resemble your earth crystals or gemstones. Like Omni, my ship crashed on Earth, but I was not the only crew member. However, I was the only survivor. Just before we crashed, I exchanged my normal form for that of a woman I saw being attacked and killed. My first act was defeating her killers.

My powers embrace more than just light, but the entire Electromagnetic Spectrum, and are powered by a power crystal I took with me from my crashed spaceship. When I assume Superhero form my eyes are black as the depths of space, but filled with stars, nebulae and galaxies. My garb is the refractive colors of the stars that fill the galaxy, and my hair is the white of the combined colors of the visible spectrum of light.

By channeling the power of the galaxy, I can fire heat rays, fly, protect myself with an forcefield, blind foes with radiance, create explosions, or use concentrated Ultraviolet rays to dehydrate my foes.

Hi! My real life name is Lisa, and Spectra is a superheroine I’ve wanted to bring to life ever since the “Who Wants to be a Superhero?” show by Stan Lee. Well, maybe someday…

Really fantastic description. She’d be an amazingly powerful Hero. What did you base her on? Interesting how the race resembles certain of our minerals i.e. crystal. Any further significance there?

Superman

p.s. Welcome!

Superman

p.s. Welcome!

I based her powers on the colors of the rainbow and associated parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Her red power is a heat ray. Blinding Flash is yellow (like the color of the sun, that blinds you if you look at it for too long). Anti-Gravity (flight) is green because I was thinking of the Earth and most of the Earth is green. Blue went to nuclear radiation because green was already taken (irradiated stuff usually is depicted as glowing green). Violet went to Ultraviolet, and it’s an invisible power. She can cook people with the power of the ultraviolet spectrum! Indigo went to explosions (Explosive ray) and orange became her forcefield because it was the only color left.

She also has another power that’s usually attributed to crystals. Healing. She can heal people, though that isn’t liked to a color. And I like crystals and gemstones. I collect them. I have a whole collection of crystals and gemstones, including a piece of rose quartz big enough to smash someone’s head in… kind of ironic, since it’s usually considered a healing stone.

Here’s the description I wrote of her for a game I use her in.

A tall woman with a streak of silver-blond hair, Spectra’s eyes are remote and not entirely human, reflecting instead the endless depths of space, lit with flaring stars and supernovae. Her costume is as transparent as her body, and it, too, is filled with fields of stars, gaseous nebulae and even the occasional galaxy.

Her powers come from the stars as well, and she emits a nimbus of light when she uses them, the colors of that light reflecting the form of the power. When she uses more than one power at a time, the colors fluctuate and flash around her in a darting, spinning light show.

In her heroic form, she doesn’t need to sleep very much and can survive in a vacuum or at high pressure- which can be attributed to her partly-crystalline body, and she’s also got a universal translator-type power as well and only needs to read or see something once to memorize it (eidetic memory). In her non-heroic form, she is a usually looked down upon minority (sometimes fat, sometimes black, sometimes hispanic- depends on if I am playing her or not).

And thanks for the welcome. It is greatly appreciated.

That’s some serious detail.  What about switching the green and blue though, as blue makes me think of the sky and could also help to increase her stealth abilities while flying.  As for healing, what if when she heals someone, it leaves a crystallized form of skin on the wound until it had completely healed.  Somewhat of a mineral band-aid… but cooler.

That would be a good idea, but the colors are pretty bright and intense, and her healing is instantaneous, so there’s no need for a crystal “bandage”, as neat an idea as that was.

As for her personality, she is definitely alien. She comes off as cold and aloof, but the truth is, she doesn’t know how to interact very well with humans, and her race, being crystals, doesn’t have much use for emotions to begin with. Her new human emotions in her human form frighten her a bit and she tries not to give into them. In Superhero form, she is a far colder figure, being mostly emotionless and logical. She’s not above killing people who are doing really evil things. She doesn’t go out of out of her way to kill evildoers, but if it happens, it happens. She’s not going to castigate herself or go on a guilt trip because some guy doing bad things is now unable to do them any more. But if she severely injured someone, and they were not yet dead, she would use her healing powers to save them.

She isn’t very talkative, either. She only brings things up when she has something to say. In a way, she gets more of a feeling for how humans interact by watching them, so going on patrol is a chance to people-watch in addition to fighting crime.
